As you approach Michael Booth’s Quonset Log Gallery/Studio/Home, the artistic influence begins well before you step inside. The drive leading to the building is marked by gates featuring metal cutouts of mountains, elk, and trees, giving you a preview of the stunning artistry awaiting you. Life-sized sculptures of bears, horses, and elk stand proudly in the yard, with more monumental abstract sculptures gracing the property. These larger-than-life works of art are just a taste of the diverse collection housed within this Hungry Horse landmark.

Upon arrival, you will notice the front facade of the building, a striking feature made of three tiers of heavy-duty galvanized aluminum arches, with rounded windows tracing the curve of the Quonset roof. The entrance itself is just as impressive, with hand-carved wildlife scenes of elk, mountains, and forests, welcoming visitors at the front door. Adjacent to the front door is a stone looking relief of a horse pack string, sculpted by the artist to trim the bottom of the front log facade. As you step inside, you’ll be captivated by the gallery’s colorful, acid-stained concrete floors, which Michael designed, poured, and stamped with the help of his children. The floors are a testament to the family’s creative spirit, adding yet another personal touch to the space.

Michael envisioned his creative sanctuary to flow seamlessly from home to studio to gallery space, and accomplished his dreams with distinctive personal touches throughout the building. Custom lighting panels resembling a cheerful “blue sky with white cumulus cloud” panels grace the home, studio, and gallery ceilings, giving the effect of a sunny bright day outside. Fireplaces in the home and studio are accented with large pine log beams carved with elk and rams in a forested setting. The towering ceilings inside, with the expansive back windows overlooking the forested perimeter make this an idyllic refuge for an artist exploring his creative passions. For Michael and his wife Janet, there’s no place they’d rather be. This unique space not only fuels their creative endeavors but also fulfills their dream of living full-time in the heart of Montana’s breathtaking landscape.
