“Elk Herd”, an original watercolor painting by Michael Booth

For Artist Michael Booth, the move to Montana was more than a change of scenery. It was the realization of a lifelong dream. After retiring from a distinguished career teaching college art, he moved his art studio to a peaceful location, sandwiched between the small town of Hungry Horse, and the west entrance of Glacier National Park. Booth has immersed himself fully in the majestic landscapes that first captured his imagination decades ago. With his home and studio surrounded by the beauty of this iconic park, Booth’s artistic journey has come full circle, inspiring a new chapter in his life and work.

Born and raised in southeastern Idaho, Booth’s early years on a ranch shaped his love for horses, the outdoors, and the rugged beauty of the American West. While his professional path once led him toward forestry, it was the lure of art that ultimately captured his heart. His journey from student of nature to student of art, a decision that once required a leap of faith, was the beginning of a legacy that would span decades of exploration, teaching, and creating.

However, Booth’s story doesn’t end with what he has already accomplished. Today, as he continues to immerse himself in the landscapes of Glacier National Park, his current works show a deeper connection to this place he now calls home. The vibrant colors, raw beauty, and dramatic weather of the park inspire new compositions, while his experience allows him to push the boundaries of his work with greater freedom and expression.

Looking to the future, Booth sees endless possibilities for his art. He envisions new projects that will challenge him in ways he has yet to explore, whether through larger-scale sculptures, fresh interpretations of Glacier’s wild spaces, or continuing his series of expressive landscape paintings. With a life dedicated to creativity, Booth invites his friends, family, and fellow art enthusiasts to join him on the next leg of his artistic journey. One that is sure to reveal even more captivating, emotionally charged art, in the years to come.

For Michael, the journey of art is never complete. It’s an ongoing adventure of discovery, creation, and connection. And he’s excited to take readers along for the ride, as his past, present, and future artwork continue to unfold.
